Events you might like

1) This is the Sunday for our annual “Stone Soup Lunch” (based on the children’s story about a town where no one had enough food, but when they all contributed the little they did have to a communal soup pot, there was enough to feed the whole town!) You have invited to make a little contribution to our soup pot before the service (like cut up vegetables, rice, grains, spices, etc.), then come down after the service to see what we cooked up. Enjoy a simple lunch of soup and bread, and make a donation to the United Church’s Mission & Service Fund as you are able.

2) It is an “Observer” discussion Sunday. So grab your soup and join Rev. Rob to talk about articles in the recent “Observer” magazine.

3) It is also a Muffins for Mission Sunday, but there is a twist this time – we are having a “Halloween” bake sale.

4) This Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm, Judy Smiegielski is hosting an Open House because our friend Rev. Lilian Patey is in town. Everyone is welcome to stop by for coffee and a chat (432 Shuniah St.).

Here are some things you might like to know about for next week:

1)  Monday – The book study on “The Cup of Life: A Guide for Spiritual Growth” begins. Talk to Rev. Rob if you have not already stated that you are interested in coming. Starts at 7 pm.

2)  Tuesday – Diana is cancelling Handbell rehearsal because it is Halloween.

3)  Friday – Youth Group’s Halloween Party

4)  Saturday – Fellowship Club’s Western Party from 4 – 6 pm, in Lunan Hall. Let’s have fun and dress up in western style. Prize awarded to the best costume!

5)  Next Sunday – If you are new to St. Paul’s in the last year, please join us for the Newcomer’s Lunch. You are welcome to bring a guest. Come meet other newcomers, the church staff, and Church Family Committee members.

6)  Next Sunday is also the November Fundscrip order deadline. The form is attached to this email.

From the Finance & Administration Committee:  An update as of Sept. 30th    Income $155,196, less expenses $199,769 = Shortfall of $ 44,573!  Churches usually find themselves in a deficit position at the end of the summer, but it is concerning that our shortfall grew by $6,875 during September. The Committee urges your prayerful consideration of how we can meet the budget that we adopted at our last annual meeting.

There are volunteer opportunities at both the St. Andrew’s Soup Kitchen and the Dew Drop Inn. Both organizations operate on donations of food and funding from the community and volunteers. If you are interested in helping contact Kathleen at 632-2885 or email  / or speak to our Stewardship & Outreach Committee Chair Mary Anderson at 767-5620.
