COOL CLOTHES FOR KIDS is a project that resulted from our partnership with St. James Public School. Many families cannot afford the cost of basic clothing. With guidance from Marla Poulin, a former principal at the school, and support from the current principal, we collected good used clothing and offered a ‘shopping at no charge’ opportunity to several classes of students. Here was an opportunity for church seniors to address the economic and social gap as it relates to clothing.
We applied to the United Church of Canada Foundation for a Seeds of Hope Grant to help make our church/school initiative sustainable. We needed to set up a cupboard at the school that would be organized and supervised by someone in need of employment experience. That someone is Natalie Himmelman who, with support from Janie McDaid, will lead the way for our continued service, learning and engagement.
COOL CLOTHES FOR KIDS cupboard is available to all children but geared to the specific needs of children at risk. We celebrate and give thanks for a grant of $3500.00 from The Wesley C. Smith Fund and The Watkins Fund for Poverty and at-Risk Youth and Children at the United Church of Canada Foundation.
